Runner-Up Champion Quail Trap Max ran in the first brace of the Judd Kinne Memorial Amateur Classic at the Gladwin Field Trial Grounds. Max had a strong hour and pointed a woodcock at time earning him runner-up honors. Two weeks later Scott Chaffee handled Max to a first place win in the Beaverton Grouse Dog Club’s open shooting. Scott reported that Max had a strong race and pointed a grouse.

D J’s Watchher Strut (Rae) has been bred to RU CH Quail Trap Max, pups due approx May 30. Max is 50 lbs of class & style, a dog that wants to please, and most importantly, a bird dog. He is a son of 3X RU CH Emmy’s Apple Jack, and litter mate brother to CH Quail Trap Sadie. “Rae” is very smooth gaited with a long stride, cracking her tail every step, pointing straight up. RU CH Quail Trap Max/Willowood’s LL Bean

RU-CH Quailtrap Max bred Willowood’s LL Bean on 1-17-12 and will again two more times this week. Max is by 3xRU-CH Emmy’s Apple Jack and Quailtrap Kate. Ellie is by CH Springfield’s Orvis and CH John’s Hard Cider. Max is a very strong 50lb dog with a nice career going so far. He has 8 wins to his credit, was RU-CH in the Wisconsin Grouse Championship in 2010, ran in the 2011 Grand National Grouse Invitational, and was RU Michigan Coverdog of the Year in 2011. Ellie is a very pleasing 35lb dog with a nice career so far as well. She has 11 wins to her credit on both wild birds and planted birds, was RU in the Flanagan Award race in 2010, and RU Michigan Coverdog Derby of the Year in 2010. The litter will be nominated for both the Grand National Grouse Futurity and the National Walking Dog Futurity. A $100 deposit will hold your pick. Total price of the puppies will be $600. CH Quail Trap Sadie named Runner-Up at the Grand National

CH Quail Trap Sadie was named the Runner-Up Champion at the Grand National Grouse Championship on November 5. The Grand was held at Gladwin, Michigan. There were 71 entries in this year’s championship event.

Sadie was handled in the Grand by Scott Chaffee. Scott and Sadie teamed up for an impressive fall. The Chaffee/Sadie duo started the fall season off with a second place finish at the Highland Club’s trial. Followed by winning the Wisconsin Cover Dog Championship with an entry of 56 dogs. They then topped the fall off with Sadie being named RU-CH at the Grand.

Scott Chaffee called me late Saturday night to tell me that Sadie had won the Wisconsin Cover Dog Championship. She topped a field of 56. Thanks to Scott for all of his hard work.

On September 17, Quail Trap Kate whelped a litter of nine pups sired by RU-CH Emmy’s AppleJack, 1 female and 8 males. This is the last time that Kate will be bred. The two previous litters produced by Jack and Kate have created a pretty impressive win record. To date, eight of their pups have 53 placements in grouse, walking quail, and horseback stakes. Hunters are also giving good reports about their Jack/Kate pups.
